Supersprint has designed, developed and crafted a new stainless steal full exhaust system for the latest generation, 4-valve, 3.5 liter V6 MERCEDES gasoline engines, in conjunction with CARLSSON. This twin pipe, oversized (2 x 60mm) exhaust, includes headers with equal-length, individual primary tubes, special HJS-Emitec Metallic catalytic converters, mid-pipes with built-in "crossover" section, and quad-tip, oval designed rear mufflers. This very same exhaust system is endorsed by the CARLSSON Factory Race Team on its special SLK 350 V6 car and will be used throughout the 2005 Endurance Racing season. It is now available to the public at all of the Supersprint dealers worldwide, as it guarantees the same outstanding results in performance increase on any SLK 350.
Rear Mufflers

An extensive development and testing process has led to this new set of R & L Supersprint rear mufflers, which implement the Free-Flow design typical of all of the Supersprint performance systems. Contrary to the stock muffler system, which uses the baffled, resonated chamber design, this exclusive design not only gives the Supersprint exhaust the right sound but also ensures an effective reduction in backpressure. The Supersprint silencer's tapered cross-section, its overall volume, and the inner-perforated core pipe diameter all work together to best suit this new Mercedes engine and ensure optimum results. Supersprint used its exclusive oval & tapered cross-section silencer design. This design has been developed specifically for all Mercedes models equipped with an R & L exhaust, like the SL R230, the E W211, and the CLS. This particular, streamlined design uses the available space for the exhaust system at its best, and keeps the silencer boxes tucked in and away from the direct air flow running under the car chassis. This feature ensures the least wind resistance. The exclusive Supersprint muffler design also provides the right blend of exciting sound and optimum performance. Mid-pipe, with crossover, backpressure equalizing section

The Supersprint mid-pipe kit has been made with substantially larger than stock, Oversize tubes (2 x 60mm Vs. the smallish 2 x 42mm found on the oem exhaust). This pipe kit has been developed with a special, X-shaped crossover section, placed at the ideal distance from the engine. This X design equalizes the exhaust gas backpressure between the right and the left side cylinder banks of the Mercedes V6 motor. This particular feature also enhances the harmonics of the engine exhaust waves and guarantees a healthy, sporty sound.
Metallic catalytic converters, with 100cpsi beds

The front section of the Supersprint exhaust uses 2 Metallic catalytic converters with 100cpsi rating, one cat on each side. The stock system, on the contrary, uses a total of 6 cats (3 cats each side), 4 of them (2 each side) are positioned very close to the cylinder heads, and their rating is 400cpsi and over. This design severely restricts the exhaust gas flow and the performance. The Supersprint HJS cats are made in Germany by Emitec, the world leader in technology for performance, Metallic catalytic converters, are positioned further downstream in the exhaust system and have the much lower cpsi rating of 100 cells per square inch. These features guarantee a dramatic reduction of the exhaust gas backpressure and also allow for lower engine temperature in the head exhaust ports' area when under a load, especially at medium and high rpm.
Developed with the 24 hour race series in mind, this Supersprint exhaust component uses before - and -after-cat Lambda sensor ports, and is 100% compatible with the car's own OBD II emission management system.
It is also available in a non-cat version, for use on closed-course, wherever the race sanctioning body regulations allow it.

The key component for the substantial power increase of the Supersprint SLK 350 exhaust is the headers. These very special headers have been designed and developed by the Supersprint R&D team, as usual, and have been extensively tested on Supersprint’s own MAHA braked dynamometer. The stock headers use extremely short, restrictive runners, made out of stamped metal halves The Supersprint headers feature long, 42mm o.d. tubular, individual primaries, each one 500mm long, mated together smoothly, thanks to the special, 3-1 Supersprint merge collector design. The Supersprint development crew managed to squeeze these huge headers into the limited space available in the engine bay, and shaped them so well, that they can be easily fitted without lifting the engine or unbolting the transmission or other parts.

The final result of the full Supersprint exhaust system is a substantial increase in performance and torque, from the lower rpm range, all the way to the rev limit. Each one of the individual components of the Supersprint exhaust has been designed and tested with the specific goal of maximizing performance but the optimum results can only be achieved by using all of components together.
At 6250 rpm the increase in performance is +10.5 Hp. Starting from 2100rpm the torque curve of the Supersprint system is continuously above the stock curve. In fact, within the 4200 to 6200 rpm range the average gain in engine torque is + 10Nm.
Last, but not least, the lighter overall weight of the Supersprint exhaust system further enhances the handling characteristics of the SLK 350.
